YOUR MATERIAL ESTIMATE

Enter your measurements to make a plan.

Estimated material cost—

Uses your entered or example price. Excludes tax, tools, delivery and labor.

A quantity estimate for rectangular areas. The 10% default is illustrative. Set the allowance for your product, layout and installer’s guidance. Underlay, trim, adhesive, delivery and labor are separate.

THE MATH, WITHOUT THE MYSTERY

How this estimate works

Room area = length × width. Required area = room area × (1 + waste ÷ 100). Boxes = round up(required area ÷ area per box). Material cost = boxes × price per box.

A worked example

A 12 × 10 ft room is 120 ft². With a 10% allowance, plan for 132 ft². If a box covers 22 ft², buy six boxes. At $48 per box, the flooring material estimate is $288; the price is an example, not a market quote.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Before you buy

Is 10% waste always enough?

No. The appropriate allowance depends on the product, plank direction, cuts, defects and layout. A diagonal or patterned layout can require more material. Follow the product instructions and installer’s cutting plan.

How do I handle an L-shaped room?

Split the floor into non-overlapping rectangles and add their areas. This first version calculates one rectangle at a time. If you combine rooms yourself, apply the chosen allowance once to the total before rounding to boxes.

Does spare area mean reusable material?

No. Purchased area minus room area includes both cutting waste and any usable leftovers. Keep these separate when planning spare planks for future repairs.
