HOW THE LAB WORKS

Make the math
checkable.

Our editorial and calculation approach. Published October 28, 2026.

What we publish

The current notes explain geometry and measurement through original worked examples. We link to primary references when discussing terms such as active size, device pixels and software scaling. We do not present these articles as hands-on monitor reviews or installation reports.

What we calculate

The formulas appear on the tool pages. Screen geometry follows the entered physical diagonal and aspect ratio. Pixel counts are separate inputs. If their ratio differs from the physical ratio by more than 0.1%, we surface directional density and omit a single PPI comparison.

The desk tool plans a straight front-view span with explicit gaps and side reserves. It does not certify stand footprint, mounting compatibility, support loads or ergonomic suitability. Test cases cover ordinary examples, unit conversion, mismatches, portrait shapes, precision boundaries and invalid inputs.

Sources and corrections

Manufacturer dimensions take priority when planning an actual product. Example values are editable and are not claims about a currently sold model. Dates reflect the first publication and change when the relevant content changes.

To check an unexpected result, record every input, its unit and which dimension describes the active picture or complete housing. Send reproducible corrections to contact@kitcove.xyz.
